Ealing Southall By-Election Watch

This is how the local media in Ealing Southall are reporting the by-election campaign. With the Tories out of the running it can mean only one thing.....couldn't it? - A Lib Dem victory? Maybe.

BUT, i'm not going to count any chickens yet, there's a week to go and things might change. Its going to be an interesting week ahead, on the same day (19th July) there is also a further parliamentary by-election in Sedgefield and a local by-election in the Llansamlet Ward of Swansea.

Good Luck Ealing, Sedgefield and Swansea Liberal Democrats from your Aberavon and Neath colleagues!

NB: There is also a local by election in the Cleveland Ward in West Ealing - Lib Dem candidate only lost by 88 votes in May. Do help if you can

I cannot belive that the good people of Llansamlet would be stupid enough to vote Lib Dem.

Your days of misrule in Swansea are numbered. How did you manage to make almost as big a mess of things as Labour?

I've only made a couple of visits to Llansamlet, but I would say that the feeling on the ground is good. Of course, there are special circumstances surrounding that by-election, so I wouldn't claim a victory there as a condemnation of Labour's record alone.

However, Swansea Liberal Democrats have made a pretty good job of cleaning up the mess which Labour left behind.

Ok - lets look at the record of the Lib Dem led administration in Swansea:

- Council Tax increase of only 3.9% compared with 8.66% under Labour.
- Leisure Centre re-opening at the end of this year after it had to be closed due to the previous administrations mismanagement and neglect.
- Inward investment at the rate not seen in decades.
- Investment in school buildings and improved funding.
-The City Centre is being transformed.

I don't know about you but that sounds like a solid record of achievement to me, and its only been three years.

Yes but...if you look at Iain Dale's diary you'll see that that cutting is very selctive. Immediately beneath that article is another predicting a Tory win.

Turned out to be too many predictions based on hot air for Southall by-election.
